Welcome to our blog for the Pageland Red Roosters! I am head coach John Meulendyke and I plan to blog our experiences in our first year in the Tar Heel Summer Baseball League. We were scheduled to be an expansion team in the 2009 season, but with the amount of interest in the THSBL, president Wes Cook felt the league could fill another roster.
We were planning on heading to Wisconsin to spend the summer, but the Pageland job opened up in mid-December. I am very excited about the opportunity that the THSBL has given us. My family and I are really looking forward to a summer of baseball in Pageland.
I am currently the assistant coach at Concordia-Nebraska. This is my first full year of collegiate baseball. Prior to Concordia I spent two years as the hitting coach at Lake Country Lutheran High School in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. While at LCL, we set school and individual records in all major offensive categories.
I also spent one year beginning a varsity baseball program at Living Word Lutheran in Jackson, Wisconsin. In our first year with a baseball program we played a varsity schedule and finished over .500. I also spent two years at Princeton High School, as well as a number of years coaching high level youth baseball in Milwaukee. Along with my baseball experience, I also spent five years as the assistant wrestling coach at Milwaukee Lutheran High School.
My wife Jessica, and daughter Maggie(8 months), currently reside in Seward, Nebraska.
