Schedule Changes
We were rained out twice last week against Monroe. We will make up these two games on Friday, June 20th. We will play two 7-inning games starting at 5p.m. EST at Monroe.
Tonight we were scheduled to play Charlotte in Charlotte. The game has been rescheduled to be played in Pageland. Our Wednesday game will also be played in Pageland.
Statistics
Our statistics have been updated through Saturday, June 14th. I have added the statistics from the Anson game on June 4th which we were missing. I have also been able to get the OB% to work. Statistics can be found here.
Players of the Game
June 13th vs. Carolina Hurricanes Game 1- Rodney Francis
Rodney conitnues to play well. He went 3 for 4 and scored once. He also had 3RBIs in the game. Also of note was Mike Goltz. He has been getting on base with walks and has reached on an error but waited to get his first hit in this game when he hit a 3-2 pitch into the woods in left field for a grand slam! Mike Pagano allowed just one run in pitching a complete game(5-innings because of slaughter rule).
June 13th vs. Carolina Hurricanes Game 2- Zach Deutscher, Andrew Pooler, Mike DiPietropolo
These three pitchers did an outstanding job to keep us in Game 2. Zach pitched three innings and Andrew pitched two. Neither one allowed a run. We were scoreless going into the 6th when DiPi allowed one run. After Nick Chinners hit a two-out double to score two runs and put us ahead, DiPi went back out in the 7th to put the game away and earn the win.
June 14th vs. Kernersville Bulldogs Game 1- Steele Myers
This was a tough pick, we spread out nine hits in the game, but only scored three runs. Steele's only AB of the game was a pinch-hit solo homerun in the bottom of the 7th. Rodney was two for three in the game and Mike Goltz was 1 for 2 with a double and a walk. Mike just missed his second homerun of the weekend when the ball hit off the fence just inches from the top. On the same play I then sent Nick Chinners home to get thrown out. It was a real boneheaded move by me to send him home when we were down by five at the time.
June 14th vs. Kernersville Bulldogs Game 2- Justin Lindsey/AJ Albee
Justin joined the team earlier this week and came out to pitch a gem for us. He threw 5 1/3 innings. He walked six and allowed four hits, but the important part was that he allowed just one run. We scored one run in the 4th when Rodney stole home with the bases loaded. As we went into the bottom of the sixth, we still had no hits. Our only hit came when AJ sent a ball to the gap to score Alex Loftin who had been pinch running for Mike Goltz. Mike walked to open the inning then advanced to second on a passed ball. Alex then went into run and eventually stole third base. AJ also was a key in the top of the 7th. Tyler Howard allowed a single with one out. Then on a 1-1 pitch the ball was hit sharply to AJ at third base and he was able to start a 5-4-3 double play to end the game.
Player of the Week-Rodney Francis
This week Rodney went 5 for 10 with three walks, giving him an OB% of .583. He scored three runs, had three RBIs, and stole two bases, including his steal of home which tied Game 2 against Kernersville. Rodney also had one of four hits in an exhibition game some of our players played against the Burlington Royals, a minor league team in the Kansas City Royals Organization.
