Statistics
The Red Rooster statistics can be found here. If you click on the player's name, you can see each individual plate appearance and all individual stats. They may be a bit different than the league statistics for two reasons. First, this is our book which may be a little different than the official scorebook(we are usually going to favor our players a bit.) Secondly, our scorecard from our June 4th game against Anson wasn't done very well. Because of this, I have not done the stats for that game, and they may not be complete once I do them. For whatever reason, I couldn't get OB% to show, but will try to fix it for our next update.
Pictures
My wife Jessica has made it to a few games and enjoys taking pictures. She has posted pretty much all of them. Pictures from our May 31st game against Charlotte can be found here. Pictures from our game yesterday against Furquay-Varina can be found here. You may come to a login screen. You just need to click continue on the bottom.
Players of the Game
I mentioned earlier that I would do Players of the Game and Players of the Week, however have yet to do so. I will do my best to post them as soon as possible. Here are the Players of the Game and Week from our first week of games.
May 30th @Monroe-Rodney Francis
Being the first game, we were planning on using the DH spot to rotate players and get everyone swings, but Rodney forced us to keep him in the game. Rodney pinch hit for Nick Martyak in the 3rd inning and singled and scored. He then went on and finished the game 2 for 3, 1 walk, 2 stolen bases, 3 runs, and an RBI.
May 31st vs. Charlotte Game 1-Rodney Francis
Rodney made a big impact for a second game in a row. As you may have read in an earlier post, Nick Chinners hit a walk-off homerun to win the game in the 8th. However, we wouldn't have been in that situation had it not been for Rodney's two-out RBI single to tie the game 1-1 in the 5th. He again went 2 for 3, with a stolen base, an RBI, and was hit by a pitch to leadoff the 8th before Nick won the game.
May 31st vs. Charlotte Game 2-Wes Wilson
Wes had just joined us a day or two before, but made an immediate impact. Wes was 2 for 4, with a HR, 2 RBIs, and 2 runs scored. We were leading 2-1 in the 3rd when Wes hit a 2-run homerun to left and make the game 4-1. He then scored a run on Rob Stacy's bases loaded triple in the 5th to open the game up and make it 7-1. On top of the job Wes did with the bat, he called a great game from behind the plate for Dan Gross and Zach Deutscher who combined to allow just one run on four hits.
June 2nd vs. Anson-Nick Chinners
Nick was 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs. Nick gave us an early 2-0 lead with a 2-run single in the 3rd. Unfortunately, it was not enough and we ended up losing the game 10-4. So far Nick has done a great job starting all of our games at firstbase.
June 4th @ Anson-As I mentioned earlier, I need to redo and look at the scorecard from this game. On a side note, this happens to be the game when we had a number of guys pitch who are not typically pitchers. If I chose a Player of the Game for this game I would give it to our entire pitching staff for stepping in and doing a nice job on the mound.
June 7th vs. Fuquay-Varina Game 1-Dan Gross
Dan was one swing away from a no hit shutout. Unfortunately, the one hit he gave up was a solo homerun in the first. After that batter, Dan was nearly perfect. Dan made it look easy the rest of the game. He allowed no more hits and struck out seven while pitching a complete game for us. I also want to make note of Nick Martyak and Nick Chinners. The Nicks combined to go 5 for 5 and accounted for four runs and two stolen bases.
June 7th vs. Fuquay-Varina Game 2-Newcomers
This game was a combined effort from a lot of players. By "newcomers" I am talking about the young men who have not been with the team the entire time since reporting in late May. Mario Sencion was the starting pitcher. He went six innings allow no runs while scattering six hits. Rider pitcher Mike DiPietropolo finished the game in the 7th facing three batters and striking out two. Mario and Mike combined to pitch our first shutout of the year. Rider infielders AJ Albee and Steve Galella combined to go 4 for 7, with two runs, three RBIs, a double, and a stolen base. Finally, Steele Myers got his first two collegiate hits while going 2 for 4 and scoring a run. Steele also played very well defensively including three spectacular plays in a row in the 4th in which runners were called safe. The first play was close, but the two following plays he made he threw runners out by at least half a step.
Player of the Week-Nick Chinners
Nick has done a great job on and off the field. He has quickly become a team leader and is a fine young man. Nick is a switch hitter and has started the season hitting .526, with 8 RBIs, and a homerun to win a game for us last Saturday. On top of his offense he has saved the infield a few errors by making some fine picks at firstbase. He is a very good offensive and defensive firstbaseman with some great baseball IQ.
Congratulations to Our Graduate!
Although he takes a good ribbing from his roommates, we do want to congratulate Steele Myers on his high school graduation. Steele is graduating on Monday. He has done a nice job of balancing the Red Roosters and his last couple weeks of school three hours away. We look forward to having him back on Wednesday for the rest of the summer. Steele will be playing ball at VMI in the fall. Don't worry mom, we will make sure he is in bed by 11 during the week.
